The Battle of Stiklestad 1030 AD (Video)

The Battle of Stiklestad is one of the most famous battles of Norwegian history, which took place on July 29 (or August 31) in 1030 between the troops of Saint Olaf II and his opponents – the Norwegian bonds and Lendermans who supported the Danish king Cnut the Great. The battle became an episode of the struggle for the Norse throne. Overthrown by Cnut the Great in 1028, Olaf the Holy, two years later, with the help of his Norwegian supporters and Swedish mercenaries, attempted to regain the throne, but was defeated and killed. After 5 years, the Norwegian throne was occupied by his son, Magnus the Good, and Olaf himself was subsequently glorified (1031) and canonized (1164).
