The famous battle on the Ice was fought on April 5, 1242 at the Lake Peipus. The unique part about this battle is for having been fought over a solid frozen lake, hence the name. It was fought between the Republic of Novgorod led by prince Alexander Nevsky and the crusader army led by the Livonian branch of the Teutonic Knights.
